Welcome to our Climb to Fight Breast Cancer Blog: Rainier for Research

Brian and Carla are climbing Mt. Rainier in August 2010 with the Climb to Fight Breast Cancer! We need your help to raise $5,000 for breast cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Over the years, scientists at the Hutchinson Center have made amazing discoveries such as the importance for breast cancer patients to consume adequate amounts of vitamin D to keep their cancer from spreading. Another study showed that women who work the overnight shift have a 60 percent increased risk of getting breast cancer compared with women who work daytime hours. Researchers have also found that the combination of estrogen and progesterone increases the risk of breast cancer in addition to heart attacks, strokes and blood clots.

Hutchinson Center researchers have made notable discoveries, but more research is needed. In 2009 alone, more than 194,000 people in the U.S. received a breast cancer diagnosis and in the same year, 40,500 people died from it.

You can make a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients by donating today. To help us reach our $5,000 goal by April 2, 2010, please consider giving a penny for every meter of Mt. Rainier ($43.92) or a penny for every foot of Mt. Rainier ($144.10). All donations are 100% tax-deductible.
